What We Do
WINE FOR MUSIC’s Objective
WINE FOR MUSIC was created by Ivo Varbanov (a classical concert pianist and also a wine producer): his idea is to create a positive synergy between high-quality wines worldwide and the Classical, Jazz, and Experimental music industry. The primary goal of WINE FOR MUSIC is to ensure music is central to the life and wellbeing of people by distributing grants for music projects worldwide.
Its mission is to support performing and presenting musicians and musical organisations whose artistic excellence promotes and improves public knowledge and appreciation of serious music of various genres.
It can happen that a project with a high cultural, historical, and social content is not funded and/or is not commercially viable. We are particularly keen to support projects of this kind. Please look at the section Apply to see if your project is eligible and how it can be supported by one of our grants.
Projects are funded by Winethropists: keen-on-arts wine producers, distributors, retailers, and private individuals. How it works: Winethropists can purchase stickers from our organisation, and then apply them to their wine bottles thus showing their support towards music.
Emanuela Piccolo, MSc
Emanuela Piccolo comes to Wine for Music with an impressive portfolio of skills. After a thesis in cultural anthropology at the University of Genoa, where she examined museums in Liguria, she undertook a master’s in cultural and artistic heritage management in museums at the University of Roma Tre and a postgraduate diploma in international co-operation and development at the Institute for International Political Studies in Milan. Since then she has been active around the world in a number of NGOs: project manager supporting an indigenous community in Argentina, programme co-ordinator for Bambini Vittime in Italy, member of the Advisory Committee of the Genoa Province Council for International Cooperation, Funding and Projects Officer and then Co-ordinator for the Green Belt Movement International in London and, most recently, a consultant and funding specialist for the environmental organisation Size of Wales in Cardiff.
The founder and artistic adviser of Wine and Music, Ivo Varbanov, is in the unique position of being both a practising musician and a viticulteur whose wines are commanding a growing reputation among his fellow producers and a ready market among the world’s consumers. A cultural figure of some prominence in his native Bulgaria, Ivo Varbanov has acted as an ambassador for Bulgarian composers and a spokesman for Bulgarian wine-growers. In 2014, with his wife, the pianist Fiammetta Tarli, he founded the recording company Independent Creative Sound and Music (ICSM) Records, where they and a select group of fellow musicians are responsible for an expanding discography that is being well received by international critical opinion. These diverse activities are woven round appearances in some of the world’s more important concert halls.
